Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player won his first title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
