KK Park represents one of several scam facilities located along the Myanmar-Thai border

The Burmese armed forces states it has taken control of one of the most well-known scam compounds on the frontier with Thailand, as it retakes important area lost in the ongoing civil war.

KK Park, located south of the border town of Myawaddy, has been synonymous with digital deception, cash cleaning and forced labor for the previous five-year period.

Numerous individuals were lured to the complex with guarantees of lucrative positions, and then coerced to operate complex frauds, taking countless millions of money from targets all over the planet.

The junta, previously compromised by its links to the fraud business, now says it has taken the facility as it extends control around Myawaddy, the main commercial connection to Thailand.

Military Expansion and Political Objectives

In the previous month, the junta has driven back rebels in various areas of Myanmar, seeking to maximise the quantity of locations where it can conduct a proposed vote, commencing in December.

It currently hasn't mastered extensive areas of the country, which has been divided by fighting since a government overthrow in February 2021.

The vote has been rejected as a fake by anti-junta elements who have vowed to obstruct it in regions they control.

Origins and Development of KK Park

KK Park began with a property arrangement in early 2020 to establish an industrial park between the KNU (KNU), the ethnic insurgent faction which dominates much of this area, and a little-known HK publicly traded company, Huanya International.

Investigators believe there are links between Huanya and a prominent Chinese criminal individual Wan Kuok Koi, better known as Broken Tooth, who has since invested in other scam facilities on the frontier.

The facility expanded swiftly, and is clearly observable from the Thai side of the frontier.

Those who were able to get away from it describe a harsh environment established on the thousands, numerous from continental African states, who were held there, compelled to operate long hours, with torture and physical violence inflicted on those who were unable to achieve targets.

Current Actions and Statements

A statement by the military's communications department claimed its personnel had "secured" KK Park, freeing in excess of 2,000 workers there and confiscating 30 of Elon Musk's Starlink communication devices – extensively used by deception hubs on the border frontier for online functions.

The declaration blamed what it termed the "militant" ethnic organization and volunteer people's defence forces, which have been combating the junta since the takeover, for unlawfully controlling the region.

The military's claim to have closed this well-known deception facility is very likely directed at its main supporter, China.

Beijing has been pressing the junta and the Thai authorities to take additional measures to terminate the unlawful activities operated by Chinese networks on their shared frontier.

Previously in the year many of Asian employees were extracted of deception compounds and flown on chartered planes back to China, after Thailand cut access to electricity and fuel supplies.

Broader Situation and Continuing Functions

But KK Park is merely one of a minimum of 30 similar compounds located on the frontier.

Most of these are under the protection of Karen paramilitary forces allied to the military, and many are currently operating, with countless people running frauds inside them.

In actuality, the backing of these militia groups has been essential in enabling the armed forces repel the KNU and further rebel organizations from land they captured over the past two years.

The military now controls nearly all of the road connecting Myawaddy to the other parts of Myanmar, a objective the regime established before it organizes the opening round of the poll in December.

It has taken Lay Kay Kaw, a recent settlement founded for the KNU with Japan-based funding in 2015, a time when there had been hopes for permanent stability in the Karen region following a national peace agreement.

That represents a more important setback to the KNU than the takeover of KK Park, from which it received a certain amount of income, but where the bulk of the monetary gains ended up with pro-junta armed groups.

A knowledgeable contact has indicated that deception work is continuing in KK Park, and that it is likely the armed forces seized merely a section of the sprawling complex.

The insider also thinks Beijing is supplying the Burmese junta rosters of Asian persons it desires removed from the fraud complexes, and sent back to stand trial in China, which may clarify why KK Park was targeted.
