Federal aviation authorities is looking into the death of a parachuting trainer after he got detached from his client during a dive in Nashville, Tennessee.

Authorities say trainer the instructor "appears to have fallen from the sky without a safety chute" during the dive on Saturday.

Fuller, 35, seems to have detached from his client and a tandem rig, which links the two during a jump and includes the parachute.

A police helicopter found the instructor's remains in a forested zone some time after. Local emergency crews used several ladders to reach the 46-year old student who survived the descent after being stuck on a tree for hours with the emergency parachute.

Officials stated several additional jumps, which took place near Nashville's John C Tune airport, were carried out without incident prior to the fatal fall. The plane from which they leaped also touched down without issue.

It is unclear how the instructor, an seasoned parachutist, got detached from the protective gear.

A man who helped rescue teams in the rescue informed a media outlet the client who authorities rescued mentioned "it was his first jump, and it was going to be his last".

The instructor had previously posted about his enthusiasm for instructing people how to skydive.

"Instructing individuals to skydive has consistently been in my opinion the most satisfying role at the drop zone," Mr Fuller wrote in an social media update in June.

"Watching them figure it out and start flying their selves is consistently a touching moment. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you release a student for their initial attempt."

During that period he posted images of the wreckage a skydiving plane he was on saying the plane's engine had failed after take off. All 20 people aboard survived.
